Bakeries
So many choices. How does liz make one? So something to know about our group is that we go to like every bakery to look. Rarely do we buy something but on this day we did. We started going to every bakery just because May loves going into them but it did not take long for us all to enjoy wondering in and checking out how different each bakery was (as well as taking in the smell). This bakery was at the MTR stop that we got off at for going to the VTC campus each day.
Wondering the streets
So we did not start off the night planning on walking the streets (aka the areas around the sham shui po stop and between the Jordan and Mong Kok stop), we had planned to go to Temple Market but once at the MTR station realized it would take about 1.5hrs to go (and it was already 6:30ish) so we decided not to but needed a new plan so we looked at the map and the four of us (dwang, kyle, eshao and i ) chose some stops we wanted to go to. First stop was sham shui po which was awesome. It was one of the few areas I had been to in Hong Kong that was a market area that was not filled with westerners. all locals. it was so refreshing.
the market was awesome and many of the stalls were all one thing (like the stereos in this picture). a lot of the stuff reminded me of things sold in America in the early 2000's or 90s.
Kyle digging through piles to find t-shirts(that have english that makes not a lot of sense). It is the thing he likes to bring back from different countries.
Near the Jordan stop we decided we were hungry enough to get food so we found awesome bao zi to eat and then the rest of the night we ate street food. so yummy.
while we were walking to mong kok we came across this temple. it was right on an extremely busy street. It was the perfect reminder that yes we are still in Hong Kong/Asia. the temple/park area had older men playing board games together. super cute. too bad there is not a lot of that left in the US (at least not the areas i usually go).
Okay so once we got to Mong Kok we were not able to orient ourselves because we were used to coming out of the MTR when we arrived and we had walked to Mong Kok specifically to find a restaurant-ish place that only sold mango dishes so after wondering for a bit we went into the MTR station and back out the correct exit (MTR stations have many exists) and were so excited to find the place right away. Emily riding the escalator back up to see if we picked the right stop (she is sceptical). The Mango place in the next pic.
Dwang and I super excited about our mango drinks with jellies! (asians love their jellies)
