Seminar Day 1--opening ceremonies & ocean park
The seminar was between VTC (hong kong) and ITE (singapore) students and we were there to observe and give a presentation on energy initiatives at MIT. We got awesome hats and tshirts so we of course wanted to take a picture as we are waiting for the bus at the MTR station (Hong Kong is called the MTR and Taiwan is called the MRT...I am in Taiwan writing these blogs I am getting the rail systems all mixed up...oops). We were told to get there super early so as we are waiting for everyone to take their seats some people tried to hide behind their hats to nap.
During the opening ceremonies the Hong Kong students put on a play and a couple of my students were in the play. One of them, Adrian, was a pirate. Then in the afternoon we got split into three groups and got to go to three different places. I was with Emily and Nick and we got to go to Ocean park. Some how Nick ended up with one of the sub-group signs and was leading all the students through the park and he did not even know where he was going but some how we ended up in the right spot.
Watching the dolphin shoe and sea lion show. I guess theme parks are the same no matter where you are in the world.
The three of us having a good old time. Us with two of the Australian students (who were also participating in the seminar) with an amazing view behind us. I rode the roller coaster just so i could get better views. So cool to have a roller coaster built on the side of a mountain with a view of other hong kong islands around it.
I also went on this ride to also get more good views. This is a group picture with some of the students we went around Ocean park with and hung out with all day. They were super fun to hang out with.
We got to see awesome jelly fish. Yes they are alive. Me talking with some of the students in the panda exhibit. We were trying to kill time in air conditioning but had to be really quite since pandas were sleeping.
Emily was really excited to find someone else whose glasses fog up when they leave the air conditioning of a building and head outside. At the park there was a really awesome show going on with people doing acrobats (this is definitely not something I would expect to see in merica)
After Ocean Park we were dropped off in Causeway Bay and the students had already booked a restaurant for us to go to that was traditional Chines food. It was so delicious and so great to talk to them more.
As we were heading towards the MTR we found this Harry Potter exhibit that was set up on the streets, I think it was promotion for the movie coming out in July.
