Tiger Leaping Gorge

DSCN3157 DSCN3162

Tiger Leaping Gorge is positioned right between Lijiang and Shangri-la. It is not set up as somewhere you can go as you travel between the two places (no places to really stay or anything) so while we were in Lijiang we decided to take a day trip to the Tiger Leaping Gorge (we did not do the trek through the tiger leaping gorge because we did not have enough days). Our driver was awesome though and brought us to the opposite side of where all the tour buses go so our path was basically empty. We also got there right as it was opening so it was super empty.

The Chinese are really into taking a tone of pictures with the stone that has the name of the place written on it. Any site meant to be tourstie has a stone with the name so we decided to take a picture with the rock. Do as the chinese do as long as you are in china.

The place was gorgeous. Also you will noticed the path we are walking on is completely paved.  This is very Chinese. Any place meant for tourist will be paved. You might think you might be able to go for a little hike but in reality you will be walking on a paved path unless you do some trek or something that's audience is aimed at only Westerners.

Shannon being a leaping tiger. This was the  mouth of the tiger (i think the sign says something related to tigers) The water was also super turbulent in areas. We found this very fascinating so we took a lot of pictures of the turbulent water.

Dwhited and I at a turn in the gorge. The picture of water going crazy, but then you can also see all the people lined up against the railing on the opposite side of the river.

Anne Shen and Dwang representing the asian-ness in them. This beautiful waterfall that was along the path. Oh yea, the water was so brown because it was the rainy season and therefore tons of soil running into the river. Apparently at another time in the year, the water in blue. As we were walking there were signs and people warning us to be careful that there might be a mudslide or beware of rocks falling down the side of the mountain (possibly dangerous?).

There was an area that you could walk down so you could be closer to the water. Can you find me in the first picture? You can see I found a little ledge in the cliff to sit on. My camera died so I just found a place to sit. It worked out because apparently I found a place that also kept me dry when it rained. so nice.

Chopstick man and chopstick woman also had fun at the gorge.

We found a great place to eat lunch after we were done wondering through the gorge. It was on the side of the road and had a great view of the water and mountains. The food was also very good.
