The best bread we had in China (qin ke bin). The yak meat hot pot that we had. We would not have found this restaurant if it were not for our new friend Eric that we met while chilling in the hostel. We were just planning on going back to the same restaurant we had go to the night before but quickly decided to change our plans when Eric offered to take us to his favorite restaurant. It was right across the street (perfect location!) and the food was so good (and warm....very crucial because it was cold).
Letting the yak meat cook and then we also added a ton of other things. Eric and Anne just ended up ordering all this good food to go with it (it was easier that way since the menu was all in chinese). They picked really good food and right as the last of our food was finished cooking in the hot pot the power went out in most of the Old Town in Shangri-La. The owner of the restaurant quickly brought out candles and used a beer bottle, tea cup and a little bit of wax to create a candle stick holder so we could finish our meal. It was so much fun!
The candle stick holders. The owner was so nervous we would think less of Shangri-la for losing their power but we loved it! It was so much more fun this way.
Chopstick woman & man got to have a candle lit dinner now.
Eric and Anne. After dinner we went back to the hostel and ran into Jenna who was heading out to meet up with some friends and invited us to join her so we did. Jenna worked at the hostel but was off in the evenings (and this happened to be her last night. She had worked at the hostel for about 20days). It quickly turned into us wondering around Shangri-la's Old Town looking for Sprite and yunnan white wine. It was her favorite drink and she wanted us to have it before we left the province.
We ended up coming back to the hostel and hanging out until very late in the night. We did not have power again until later in the morning but we were able to use the wine bottles as make shift candle's because we reused the wax. It was great staying up and talking with Jenna and Eric. Jenna left the next morning to go back to Lijiang and we stayed in Shangri-la for another day.
