Shangri-la

Pictures from the drive between Lijiang and Shangri-la

The drive between Lijiang and Shangri-la was gorgeous.  It was hard to sit on the bus and not take pictures.  The bus would not stop so I tried taking pictures through the window. They are not the best but still better than nothing.

We started to see the coolest houses.  We were getting closer to the Tibet border and the houses/architecture was so different than anything else I had ever seen. The details around the windows and doors was amazing!

N's Kitchens Hostel

We stayed at N's Kitchen Hostel. Cute little place right in the Old Town of Shangri-la. Shangri-la  was so cold because of the high altitude.

Anne Shen got a yack hamburger to eat.  Reminding us of good old America. Anne showing off the two shirts (that are the same) to us.  She is wearing them to stay warm.  Thank goodness I had packed hats/gloves/jeans and long shirts.  I thought I was crazy at the time but it definitely was nice to have in this city.

Walking around in Shangri-la

Look at this "car"! It has only 3 wheels! Apparently it is not actually a car so the driver does not have to register the car/have a license. Scary? Picture from standing on the middle line waiting to cross traffic. I got so used to crossing like this that I forgot people don't cross like this in america. oops.

We went to walk around outside of the old town in order to find Anne some warmer clothes.  The clothes in old town were more than she wanted to pay and we were convinced we could find something cheaper if we went away from the tourist spots.  We say dancing going on in the main square. There was also this very elaborate hotel that seemed very out of place.

After shopping, we went to a cafe to grab dinner and just sit around and chat. It was the most western restaurant i had been in since traveling in china. It was a nice break.
