Kunming

DSCN2933 DSCN2931

We got to Kunming Sunday afternoon and had some time to kill so we decided to go check out a park-Cui Hu.  There were many different ethnic groups dancing at the park. We think there might have been a festival going on but we were not sure.

Depending on the dance depended on what the attire was. While going through the park Shannon's camera was making noises so Anne was trying to help her diagnose the problem. The guy near buy was also curious.

This woman asked to take a picture with Shannon but then ended up making this face...it looks like a face of discus. I wonder if that is her smile. There were pretty lily pads in a section of the pond in the park.

In the park there was also different stands to buy stuff at we had fun looking/shopping. Dwang found her "dream" engagement ring! (a pink turtle)

In a quitter area of the park we found an area of the pond that had this plant that was being pushed around by the rush of water entering the pond. (nerd alert:) We had fun getting into the fluid mechanics of it all and talking about control volumes.  After the park we just walked around and explored some. Eventually Shannon and I realized that we had the same outfit on...black tank top and khaki. Anne was sad that she was not matching us...she was so close to it.

This was a common way things were being carried throughout town. We also found a bakery that was so cheap, so fresh and so delicious!

This was a puff pastry that was freshly stuffed. Dwhited also got excited when she saw chickens in the street.

Dumplings! The process of showing chopstickman to Kunming.

Besides dumplings we also ate rice noodle soup. The noodles are made from rice. The rice in this region is not supposed to taste very good so they learned how to turn the rice into noodles. Afterwards, back in the hotel Dwang and Anne Shen had fun with the leaves from the dates.  Dwang was turning her into Pocahontas.
